I just lost my Yahoo email account in a surprise dawn attack. The notification email I received through Hotmail said that *someone* changed my password at 1:05 AM. I tried to retrieve the password, but for some reason the new passwords generated by Yahoo don't work. Apparently, *someone* did more damage than I thought.
I know who did it. The sad thing is that I've trusted that person. Ironically, she doesn't trust me.
For the past few hours I've been scrambling to shore up all my other accounts' security. The enemy had achieved complete tactical surprise; I won't let it happen again. Note to self: never tell anyone else more than what they need to know.
I've always considered an attack on anything I own as an act of war. Call me crazy, but isn't the deliberate destruction of other people's property an unfriendly act?
And all this over such a stupid and trivial issue. Apparently, she would rather listen to the little voices in her fat stupid head than to reason and reality. I can't be with someone who doesn't -won't- trust me.
Of course there is more to this issue than what I'm writing here. But, as always, I won't tell more than what I need to write this blog entry. It's policy. And principle. If *someone* would only appreciate that then we probably won't be in this situation in the first place!
I've moved to a Gmail account. If you need to email me, send me a personal message and I'll tell you my new address there.
The best way to handle this situation would probably be with a proportional response. However, I cannot -will not- tolerate a repeat of this event.
Reciprocity. That's the answer.
